Cheap eggs and milk

In these times where it appears that inflation has driven up the costs of everything it is worthwhile to find deals where you can. So, let’s thank Rob. Rob runs a farm, and he is a supplier to major supermarkets. But he likes to give back to his community.

He says “we’ve been working this land since my grandfather’s time. These days we’ve got a decent setup with a couple hundred hens, good dairy herd, and we supply eggs and milk to one of the big supermarket chains. That part of the business helps keep the lights on and pays for the feed and fuel, but it’s not the whole story.

See, I’ve always thought it was a bit crook that families have to pay so much at the shops for basics like eggs and milk. The same eggs we pack and send off are getting marked up before they hit the shelves. So I figured, why not let people come straight to the source? If someone’s willing to hop in the car and drive out here, I’ll give ’em a better price than they’d get in town. No middlemen, no transport costs, no retail markup just fresh produce at a fair go.

Some weekends, cars line the driveway, families load up trays of eggs and bottles of milk, have a bit of a yarn, let the kids pat a calf. It’s all a bit more human than the cold shelves of a supermarket. I still honour the supply contracts but when folks come here, I’m not charging them Woolies prices. I’m charging what I think is fair, what it actually costs to produce, with a little bit on top to keep us ticking along.

Find a farmer like Rob and save.
